Interview with Michelle Glancy, Human Resources Director

What would you like to highlight in this newsletter?

In thinking about appreciation and all the different aspects of REACH, I decided I really want to acknowledge and provide a greater awareness of the admin group. They are the wizards behind the curtain, and they truly deserve tremendous acknowledgment and thanks. They’re kind of like mechanics—they keep the engine running. The folks in the admin group are the ones who make sure that all the t’s are crossed and the i’s are dotted. They literally touch every aspect of our operations.

Here at the Santa Rosa office, covering Clinical we have Traci Burns, Katie Hosack for Medical Supplies, Aviation has Charles King, Annette Arnold is in Marketing, Lourdes Jackson helps out in Human Resources, Coby Hamilton is our receptionist, and Jennifer Hampson is our “Roving Admin”. She handles a large variety of things.

How do you feel about acknowledgment, appreciation and awards, specifically in the workplace? What role should they play? How should they be used?

I think the key to appreciation is that it needs to be sincere. Nobody can give you a script. Appreciation needs to come from the heart and from observation and understanding. In order to appreciate, you need to understand. Appreciation has no boundaries; it comes in many forms. It can be anything from a smile or eye contact to more formal recognition to a major event like our annual party.

What do you appreciate most about your position?

I appreciate the opportunity to serve and the opportunity to learn. We may stumble every once in a while, but this is an organization that moves forward and learns. We move forward and ask how we can do things differently. I learn every day. And we practice “just culture”. We hold people accountable when they should be held accountable, but we don’t just jump and react. When a situation arises, we try to determine what contributed to the decision making or outcome.

What do you appreciate most about your department and your coworkers?

I think we have one of the strongest HR teams ever right now. They’re extremely service oriented. And recently, I gained the opportunity to participate with the administrative group, as well. They’re fantastic.

What I most appreciate is that every time our line-level employees talk about their connection to the company and the mission, their commitment is just as strong as it was in the beginning. We always have more work we can do, but our employees’ commitment to their job is empowering and humbling. They come into work every day wanting to make a difference. Nobody comes to work at REACH just to work, or just for a paycheck. Same thing with our admins, Coby and Jennifer. They are wonderful.

What do you appreciate most about your family?

My son just went into the Army. He wants to serve our country. I was totally unprepared for the emotions that accompanied it, but I appreciate that he has decided to do the ultimate service.

Coby-HamiltonWhat does Coby do?

Coby is our new receptionist. She provides general administrative support but also serves as the face and voice of the company when people first enter or call our office.


What do you appreciate most about how Coby handles her job?

Coby has a passion for people and customer service, and that really shows in the way she approaches her work. While being focused on the task at hand, she is also paying attention to people’s moods. If she sees someone that is having a rough day, she tries her hardest to make him or her smile. She is dynamic in this position.

Who is in your family?

My fiancée Darrel and his son Buster.

What is your favorite food?

Lasagna! I could eat it every day, all day.

Kathie Dunn, Director of Clinical Services, talks about: Traci Burns, Administrative Assistant II

What doesn’t Traci do might be an easier question to answer. Other than being my right hand, Traci coordinates document control from all points of document movement. Clinical care records, protocols, monthly drills, continuing education, regulatory licensures, subpoenas, document completion and error remediation are a few of the tasks involved with doc control. Traci orchestrates communication and document flow between a myriad of systems and agencies while maintaining a keen awareness of HIPAA and regulatory compliance. She is an invaluable member of our Clinical Team.

What do you appreciate most about how Traci handles her job?

Traci brings best-in-class organizational talent and task master skill to her role. She has a keen eye for detail, yet she manages to successfully juggle a multitude of responsibilities seamlessly.

What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?

I like to go hiking at Annadel State Park.

What is your favorite movie?

Do you speak a second language?

Not fluently, but I’ve studied French, Italian, German, Mandarin, Russian, and Spanish.

Kathie Dunn, Director of Clinical Services, talks about: Katie Hosack, Clinical Supply Systems Coordinator


Katie-Hosack1What does Katie do?

Katie manages clinical equipment and supply systems and processes. From purchasing to negotiating to repair and crew support, Katie is at the epicenter of these transactions. She has multiple balls in the air at any given time, and she manages them seamlessly, with a smile on her face. We are so fortunate to benefit from Katie’s brilliant organizational skills and teamwork approach.

What do you appreciate most about how Katie handles her job?

Katie brings a contagious optimism to each role and task she takes on. She is a quick study, and she has a can-do attitude, which helps her master processes and systems brilliantly.

A few fun facts about Katie:

Do you have any pets?

I have two wiener dogs, Strudel and Schnitzel.

Where is your hometown?

I come from a small town called Clearwater, which is on the gulf coast of Florida near Tampa Bay.

Do you sing in the car and if so, what is your go-to jam?

Oh my gosh. I totally have a dance party, karaoke sing-along anytime I am in the car and it’s always to Taylor Swift – always.

Vicky Spediacci, VP of Aviation Operations, talks about: Charles King, Aviation Compliance Coordinator

Charles-KingWhat does Charles do?

Charles always has a full plate—as Aviation Compliance Coordinator, there’s lots of stuff in his world. He’s a master organizer, which helps him excel in this role. His job includes everything from managing pilot records for FAA requirements—medical certificates, pilot qualification records and licensure—to managing monthly audits for the pilots on their Flight and Duty records to being in charge of Night Vision Devices for all of our helicopter bases. In addition to reconciling aircraft Visa expenses each month, Charles also reconciles the Flight Department’s month-end reports. He does all this and more, and…he is 100% responsible for the east side admin offices’ holiday decorations every year!

What do you appreciate most about how Charles handles his job?

Charles truly is one of the most organized people I know. He does a fantastic job of tracking the flight department’s administrative work to ensure the regulatory compliance of our pilot group. He is a huge asset to our department, and we’re thankful to have him.

I’d rather have incredible speed.

Describe yourself using one word.


If you had to eat the same meal every day for the rest of your life, what would you eat?

If I had to eat it every day for the rest of my life and I had no dietary restrictions, I’d eat a chocolate fudge cake with custard and raspberry filling and whipped cream frosting.

Jennifer is one of the latest Administrative Associates to join our organization, and she has taken the role by storm. She is a very generous person and a great addition to the REACH family. Jennifer provides support for Aviation, Clinical, Marketing, Education and General Administration.

What do you appreciate most about how Jennifer handles her job?

What I most appreciate about Jennifer is her willingness to jump in and help serve our admin associates. From the moment she started, she took the fast pace in stride and was very conscientious in terms of wanting to learn as quickly as possible so she could provide some needed relief to her teammates. With her infectiously upbeat attitude, Jennifer is also a natural motivator!

What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?

I really love riding my bike.

Who is in your family?

I have two daughters, Adeline is 12, and Eloise is 10. We have a good thing going, just the three of us.

What is one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?

People would probably be surprised to learn that I’ve been a Certified Triathlon Coach for about 15 years.

Michelle Glancy, Human Resources Director, talks about: Lourdes Jackson, Human Resources Assistant

Lourdes is our human resources assistant, so she helps with a lot of the employee on-boarding processes and employee record maintenance tasks. She is truly a gracious person who comes to work every day with a smile, bringing a sense of calm to our office.

What do you appreciate most about how Lourdes handles her job?

What I most appreciate about Lourdes is her kindness and her soft approach to her co-workers. She is very intuitive, reading situations easily and adapting to help. Lourdes’ strong administrative background lends itself well to her current role.

 A few fun facts about Lourdes:

What is your preferred morning drink?

I love a great Chai Tea.

What is one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?

I started skydiving when I was 14-years-old. I do it every year. It is a very freeing experience.

Do you play any instruments?

I play piano.


Staff Updates

Jennifer Hampson, Administrative Assistant II
Administration – Santa Rosa, CA

Michelle Glancy and the Human Resources Department are pleased to welcome Jennifer Hampson to their team. Jennifer began her role as an Administrative Assistant II in May.

She is responsible for providing day-to-day support to the marketing, aviation, and clinical departments while also handling general administrative tasks.

Prior to joining REACH, Jennifer worked as a personal trainer at the nearby Airport Health Club for five years. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Anatomy and Kinesiology from DePaul University in Illinois.

Jennifer’s positive attitude and great personality have already brought so much to this position and we are happy to have her here.

Change in leadership for REACH 5-Redding & REACH 7-Marysville, CA

Along with his current role as Program Manager for REACH 17/50 in Sacramento. Eric Polan has assumed the role of Program Manager for REACH 7 in Marysville, CA. This decision comes following the review of the base’s geography, customers, and its proximity to the Sacramento area. (Lonnie is no longer with REACH.) He will also be taking on the role of Interim Project Manager for REACH 5 in Redding. Way to go, Eric!

Ron Walter, Director of Business Relations and Development, Summit Air Ambulance

Anna Blair and the Business Relations and Development Department are pleased to announce the hiring of Ron Walter as the Director of Business Relations and Development for Summit Air Ambulance. For now, Ron’s primary regions encompass Oregon, Montana, and Wyoming.

Ron started with REACH in August and comes to us by way of Summit Air. He has a strong background in both operations and business development for a number of air programs. Ron has been assisting us on the Summit transition for the past few months and has provided invaluable service.

Regional Directors of Service Delivery Receive New Responsibilities

With the acquisition of Summit Air, there was a need to reevaluate the responsibilities held by the Regional Director of Service Delivery position to ensure all duties were distributed evenly. To help facilitate a smooth transition, each Regional Director has been assigned the following bases:

Matthew Higginbotham, Assistant Chief Pilot for Northern California/Oregon

Chief Pilot, Mark Cicali is pleased to announce that Matthew Higginbotham accepted the position of Assistant Chief Pilot for Northern California/ Oregon. He assumed his new position in August.

Matthew began his career with REACH in 2011 as a Bell-407 pilot with REACH 2. Since then, he has served as a lead pilot for both REACH 2 and REACH 3. Matt has demonstrated strong leadership and a high degree of dedication and we are positive he will continue to excel in his latest position.

Tim Cruise, SoCal/Texas Regional Maintenance Manager
REACH 9 – Imperial, CA

Andy Danovaro, Director of Maintenance, is pleased to announce the hiring of Tim Cruise, SoCal/Texas Regional Maintenance Manager. Tim began his new role in August.

Tim brings over 33 years in aviation maintenance experience to REACH; Tim has served as an A&P and an IA. His background includes a variety of helicopter and airplane models and types.

Ernie Escobar, Maintenance Training Manager

Andy Danovaro, Director of Maintenance, is happy to announce the promotion of Ernie Escobar to Maintenance Training Manager.

The maintenance department has been waiting eagerly for this position to begin and they are confident Ernie will be successful in this new role.

John Wagner, Program Manager
REACH 5- Redding, CA

Christian Giller, Director of Service Delivery, is proud to announce that John Wagner has joined REACH 5 as the new Program Manager.

John has worked in the aviation industry for over 23 years providing support in the medical, corporate, and agricultural aviation industries.

John’s experience, personality, and skills will serve our staff, patients, and customers in the REACH manner.

Coby Hamilton, Administrative Assistant I
Administration- Santa Rosa, CA

Michelle Glancy and the Human Resources Department are pleased to welcome Coby Hamilton to their team. Coby began her now role as Administrative Assistant I/Receptionist in September.

She has a strong customer service background that will serve her well in her new position. Coby is a great asset to our team and we are pleased to have her here.

Robert Bareggi, Director of Maintenance
Cal-Ore – Crescent City, CA

Sean Russell is pleased to announce that Bob Bareggi, the Cal-Ore Director of Maintenance, received the Mechanic of the Year award from our FAA FSDO.

Additionally, the Oakland FSDO also nominated Bob for the national GAMA award, which if selected he will be presented as the nation’s Mechanic of the Year in Oshkosh next summer.

Chuck Milhollin, Regional Director of Program Operations
REACH 14 – Houston, TX

Eric Freed, Vice President of Program Operations is pleased to announce that Chuck Milhollin is the new Regional Director of Program Operations for the Texas and Colorado base operations.

Chuck joined REACH as a line pilot in 2011 and was a contributor in setting up the AirCare3 (The Woman’s Hospital of Texas) partnership. He moved into the Lead Pilot position in 2012 and assumed the Program Manager position shortly thereafter.

Sean Rogoff, Director of Operational Performance and Improvement

Eric Freed, Vice President of Program Operations is pleased to announce that Sean Rogoff is the new Director of Operational Performance and Improvement.

Sean will celebrate his ten year anniversary with REACH in 2016. For the last four years Sean has worked as the Operations Project Manager in Santa Rosa, focusing on process improvement and system design.

Lourdes Jackson, Human Resources Assistant

Michelle Glancy and the rest of the Human Resources Department are pleased to welcome Lourdes Jackson to their team. Lourdes began her career with REACH as an Administrative Assistant I/Receptionist earlier this year.

Lourdes has a strong administrative background and a consistently positive and helpful attitude that will serve her well in her new role.
