The Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians is one of 12 remaining bands of the Kumeyaay Indian Nation. Residing on a 1,600-acre reservation in the Viejas Valley just east of Alpine in San Diego County, California, the Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians are a sovereign government recognized by the United States.

The Band manages and operates the Viejas Fire Department, solely dedicated to serving residents and visitors of their reservation.

In 2015, the tribal government formed an alliance with REACH to help give their community access to life-saving emergency air transport services. Crews respond to calls from their base located on the Viejas reservation. In addition to serving the residents of the reservation, this collaboration will help provide neighboring rural communities in San Diego County access to 24/7 emergency medical helicopter service.
